Protidin Int.Desk : US drone strikes in Afghanistan kill at least 3 civilians, including a Taliban commander The attack was carried out in Shindand district of western Herat province on Wednesday. However, Afghan authorities said on Thursday.

Local officials say more than five civilians have been killed in a US drone attack targeting a Taliban splinter group’s top commander in Afghanistan’s western Herat province.

Herat province’s governor’s spokesman, Jilani Farhad, said on Thursday that a Taliban commander, Mullah Nangayal, was killed in the Shindand district near the Iranian border.

Herat Provincial Council deputy Toriilai Tahiri Afghan Local News told TOLO News that more than 6 civilians were killed and injured in the attack.

Herat Provincial Council member Wakil Ahmad Karkhi said civilians were killed and injured along with Mullah Nangyal fighters in a US drone attack on Wednesday.

NATO’s mission resolution support in Afghanistan has told AFP news agency that it is a defensive air strike in support of Afghan forces. Meanwhile, the Afghan government has begun investigating civilian casualties.

After the death of Taliban leader Mullah Omar in 27, Nangayal was separated from the Taliban main branch and joined a small group led by a commander known as Mullah Rasool.
